How did Special Olympics get started?
Special Olympics started in Baltimore
County in the 1970's. The concept for Special Olympics though was
born in the early 1960s when Eunice Kennedy Shriver started a day camp
for people with intellectual disabilities at her home in Rockville,
Maryland. The first International Special Olympics Games were held in
1968 at Soldier's Field, Chicago with 1,000 athletes participating from
26 states and Canada. Special Olympics Baltimore County currently has
over 200 athletes that participate in its programs.

Special Olympics Baltimore County currently has 16 sports programs. Alpine Skiing, Aquatics, Track & Field, Basketball,
Bocce, Duckpin
Bowling, Ten Pin Bowling, Cheerleading, Cycling, Equestrian, Golf,
Kayaking, Sailing, Soccer, Power Lifting, and Softball.

There are many ways to get involved with the Inspiration Walk.

Do I have to register online if I want to participate in the walk?
No, but it does save
us money if you register online. By registering online it will help us
make an accurate assessment of all of the supplies, t-shirts, food and
water that will be needed for the walk.
